Due to closing of a part of the Central Animal Laboratory Facilities, Innsbruck Medical University, the unique strain, obese strain (OS) of chicken, is going to be extinct and the emergency call was delivered around the world in April of 2007. Our center decided to conserve this special strain and import the hatching eggs. With the exceptional kindness and arrangements from the Innsbruck Medical University and Ministry of Agriculture and Forest of Japan, the hatching eggs were transferred to the quarantine office at Nagoya Chubu International Airport in October 5, 2007 and four newly chicks were successfully hatched in October 31.
