研究内容


樹木は木本植物ですが、基本的には草本植物と

同じメカニズムで成長します。ただ、強靭な樹皮と内側の

成熟した固い細胞とにはさまれた形成層で、

柔らかい細胞がおしあいながら肥大成長する点が

草本植物と違う点です。


何年もかけて数トンもの自重を支える細胞壁を形成します。

樹木は物理的に巧妙な原理に従って、

また、それを利用しながら成長しているのです。

ですから、樹木の成長には物理的な理解が必要ですし、

成長に伴って形成された細胞壁の特性を理解し、

木材を長期間有効に使っていく技術開発が必要なのです。


私たちは、細胞壁の形成過程からその物性までを

研究しています。
