Launch of MIRAI-NN: A New International Partnership Between Nagoya University and NC State University
- Advancing the Future of Avian Bioscience -

The Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences and Avian Bioscience Research Center (ABRC) at Nagoya University, in collaboration with the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University, hosted an international symposium showcasing the latest advances in poultry science on 17th, March 2026.
On this occasion, Dr. Aaron Kiess, Interim Head of the Prestage Department of Poultry Science, and Dr. Matthew Koci, Co-director of the Department, visited Japan, delivering presentations and engaging in active discussions with faculty members. Their visit marked an important milestone in strengthening academic ties between the two institutions.
The symposium featured a diverse range of topics, including genetic engineering, developmental biology, metabolism, microbiome science, and immunology, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature and future potential of avian bioscience.
Building on these discussions, the two institutions established a new international collaboration framework:
MIRAI-NN (Multiscale Innovation and Research in Avian Integration – A Nagoya and NC State Global Partnership –).
MIRAI-NN aims to:

  • • Promote cutting-edge joint research
  • • Foster a global network of researchers
  • • Support the development and exchange of the next generation of scientists

By integrating the strengths of both institutions, this initiative seeks to generate new knowledge and innovation in avian bioscience.
This partnership represents a significant step forward not only for poultry science but also for the development of sustainable livestock production and global food systems.
