Guidelines for Special Admission for the Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries: Graduate School of Bioagricultural Science

I OUTLINE
1. Objectives
The Transnational Doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries aims to offer doctoral degrees to government executives etc. of Asian countries who already possess a master's degree and wish to continue their studies, by providing a hybrid educational program that connects Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses with NU's Japanese domestic campuses, enabling students to continue in their current posts while deepening their knowledge and experience.

Eligible Participants: Government executives and young professionals who are expected to play active roles as future national leaders, etc. from the country below

5. Details of Curriculum
(1) Basic Concepts
The curriculum is suitable for nurturing national leaders in various fields, providing day-to-day remote research guidance through active use of ICT, fixed learning (schooling) periods of intensive lectures, seminars and research guidance on NU's Japanese domestic campuses, and thesis writing guidance at the Nagoya University Asian Satellite Campuses.
(2) Program Duration / Degrees
The program duration shall in principle be for 3 (three) years. Doctoral candidates who pass the doctoral thesis examination will have a Degree of "Doctor of Agricultural Sciences" conferred upon them by Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University.
(3) Language
Lectures, practica and other guidance will in principle be conducted in English.

II APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University will carry out a special selection of promising candidates for admission to our doctoral program. This is exclusively for Cambodian government officials engaged in policy making, or researchers or technical staff at government institutions working on conducting research and developing technologies. Applicants must have graduated from a master’s program. This program offers opportunities for such persons to deepen and systematize the knowledge and experience they have accumulated so far.

Biosphere Resources Science, Biological Mechanism and Functions, Applied Molecular BioSciences, Bioengineering Sciences
2. Qualifications
(1) Persons who meet all of the following conditions:
1) Current government administrators or scientific professionals engaged in matters relating to agriculture, forestry and fishery (excluding employees on temporary leave), who have at least 2 (two) years of experience in this work
2) Persons who possess a letter of recommendation from their employer or director of affiliated organization
3) Persons who have been accepted to the laboratory of one of the faculty members at the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences before applying for the Program
4) Persons who have been awarded a master’s degree or professional degree by a Nagoya University graduate school or graduate school of another university.
5) Persons who have written a master’s thesis or equivalent research thesis in English.
(2) Health: Persons whose health will pose no impediment to their university study

3. Scholarships (Schooling)
This Program offers learning support as detailed in (1) and (2) below for the fixed learning (schooling) periods on NU's Japanese domestic campuses. Said learning support (scholarship) will be terminated if grantees fall under one of the following circumstances. In addition, grantees who continue to receive scholarship money despite one of the following circumstances may be required to return the money received during the period in question.
1) If it becomes definitive that the grantee will not be able to complete his/her program within the standard duration of studies because of his/her poor academic achievement or suspension.
2) If he/she is provided with another scholarship (except scholarships designated for research expenses).
3) If a request is received from the government and/or other state institution of the grantee's home country.
(1) Scholarship (expenses during stay): Based on the Scholarship Payment Guidelines for the “Transnational doctoral Programs for Leading Professionals in Asian Countries”, the scholarship will be paid on the basis of every 15 days starting from the date of the student's arrival in Japan for Schooling in Japan
(2) Scholarship (travel expenses)
Nagoya University will provide a travel date, itinerary, and the actual amount of an economy-class airplane ticket (return) from the international airport nearest the student's home address to Central Japan International Airport for students visiting Japan to take part in schooling. Students must personally bear the costs of travel from their home address to the nearest international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, any special tax charged on the flight, travel costs within Japan, etc.
(The “student's home address” shall in principle be the address given on the application form.) In addition, the University will not pay for airplane tickets starting from a country other than the country of which the student is a national.
(NOTE) Any insurance for the trip to/return trip from Japan shall be borne by the student. In addition, the departure and return airport will be limited to airports in the country of which the student is a national.
4. Tuition Fees, etc.: Students will be entirely exempted from paying application fees, admission fees and tuition fees for the standard duration of the Program.
5. Application Documents
Applicants shall compile all of the following documents and submit them to the Student Affairs Section, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences. Forms should be typewritten or filled in using black ink.
(1) Application form / Photograph card / Admission ticket for the examination (prescribed form)
(2) Personal History for Foreign Applicants
(3) A photograph taken within the last three months, affixed to Photograph card
(4) The original copy of official transcript from the undergraduate school (including liberal arts) and the graduate courses (Photocopies are not accepted.)
(5) Certificate of master's or professional degree (Photocopies are not accepted.)
(6) A photocopy of Master's thesis and three copies of its summary
(7) Letter of recommendation from employer or director of affiliated organization (specifying term of employment and sealed by employer or director)
(8) Reference materials showing that the applicant has been working in agricultural, forestry or fishery at a government agency, and a detailed report on the practical experience they have got so far (Three copies of each, approx. 1,200 words in English)
(9) Bibliography (prescribed form)
(10) Certificate of Academic Background (prescribed form)
Should be signed by the head of the applicant's institution.
(11) Letter of Approval for Taking Examination (prescribed form)
Should be signed by the head of the applicant's institution.
(12) Copies of scientific papers, publications, conference presentations, patents and so on
(13) A photocopy of the applicant’s passport showing the photograph page
All of the necessary documents should be in Japanese or English, or they cannot be accepted. For further inquiries, please inquire at the Student Affairs Section, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences.
6. Application Procedures
Applicants shall submit all documents in items (1) to (13).
7. Selection
Successful candidates will be selected by document screening and an interview. Details of the interview schedule etc. will be provided later.
8. Announcement of Examination Results
Applicants will be notified by mail by the beginning of August.
9. Enrollment Procedures

10. Others
(1) Applicants cannot make any changes to the application documents after submission, nor can any of the documents be returned.

(4) Any information regarding individuals which has been obtained from application documents, shall be used for the purposes of notifications concerning the application in hand, entrance examinations, announcements of results of entrance examinations, enrollment procedures and any other items subsidiary to these situations. It will also be used for the administration of the school register and for academic records connected with student academic affairs after enrollment. Furthermore, any information obtained concerning individuals with be treated appropriately, and shall never be used for any reason other than its administrative purpose.
