- Information for applicants for admission of the Foreign Students to the Master's Program, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University, beginning in April 2012
- 1. Requirements for applicants:
- Foreign applicants for admission to the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University must have obtained official approval to study in Japan under the Japanese Immigration Control Law*1, and must come under one of the following conditions:
(1) Applicants who have graduated (or will graduate by March 31, 2012) from a Japanese university or college.
(2) Applicants who are awarded (or will be awarded by March 31, 2012) a Japanese official bacaelor's degree.
(3) Applicants who have completed (or will complete by March 31, 2012) the 16-year course of formal education in their homeland or any other country.
(4) Applicants who have completed (or will complete by March 31, 2012) the 16-year course of formal education of a foreign country, by taking in Japan the correspondence courses offered by the schools and universities in the foreign country.
(5) Applicants who have completed (or will complete by March 31, 2012) in Japan one of the relevant courses at an educational institution that is recognized by the authorities of a foreign country as an institution offering undergraduate courses to finish the 16-year course of formal education of the country and is approved by the Ministry of education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, Japan.
(6) Applicants who have completed (or will complete by March 31, 2012) an advanced professional course of a professional training collage. The course must fulfill the requirements set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (e.g., offering a minimum of four years of education) and be recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as such. Applicants must have graduated from the course after the date of approval by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
(7) Applicants who have been approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. (1953 Ministry Bulletin Vol.5).
(8-1) Applicants who have completed the 15-year course of formal education in a foreign country. It needs to be recognized by this Graduate School that the applicants have earned the necessary credits with satisfactory grades.
(8-2) Applicants who have completed in Japan one of the relevant courses at an educational institution that is recognized by the authorities of a foreign country as an institution offering undergraduate courses to finish the 15-year course of formal education of the country and is approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan. It needs to be recognized by this Graduate School that the applicants have earned the necessary credits with satisfactory grades.
(9) Applicants who are recognized by the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University to be equivalent in academic level to Japanese university graduates.*2
NOTE
*1: Applicants who have not obtained official approval by the time of application must obtain official approval before starting enrollment procedures.
*2: If necessary to be recognized by this Graduate School, applicants must ask the Office of Student Affairs (see 11.(3)) for details and submit the required documents by or on Friday, November 25, 2011. - 2. Maximum number of successful candidates:

- Applicants are allowed to make two choices.
(1) The applicant's field of study must be chosen for the first choice of department/division.

(2) The second choice can be among any department, division or laboratories. - 5. What to prepare for application

- (3) A photograph taken within the last three months, affixed to Photograph card
- *(4) An official transcript from the faculty (including liberal arts) the applicant has attended.
- *(5) Diploma or certificate of graduation or expected graduation from a university
- (6) Certificate of registered matters on Alien Registration File
- NOTE: Needed only for applicants without Japanese nationality, excluding those with official approval of permanent residency in Japan.
- (7) Application fee (30,000 yen by postal money order)
- NOTE: Do not fill out the address/name for specified receiver on the postal money order form.

- *For applicants who have graduated from a university in China, the required certificates must be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University (code number: C900808) through China Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) by or on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. The applications will be rejected unless the certificates reach our office by or on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.
Certificates submitted directly to our office by the applicant will not be accepted. Applicants must send their diploma (or certificate of university graduation) and their academic transcript to CDGDC and pay the required fee to CDGDC. The documents must be written in English (those written in languages other than English will not be accepted). Note that it takes more than one month for the documents to reach our office from CDGDC. Applicants should be aware of this and prepare the documents well in advance.

The applicant who has submitted the required certificates to our office through CDGDC within the past one year, should consult with us.
- 6. Application Procedures
- The completed application form and required items (1)-(9) listed above must be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University, from 9:00 a.m. till noon and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. from Thursday, January 5 to Tuesday, January 10, 2012 (except Saturday, Sunday and public holiday).

NOTE: Applicants passing this examination must take the oral examination next. - (5) Oral examination
- Time/Date: 9:00/Thursday, February 16.
Each division conducts an oral examination supervised by the division of your first preference. If applicants are judged that you need to take another oral examination supervised by the division of your second preference, the examination takes place from 15:00 on the same day. Information will be posted on a notice board at Graduate school of Bioagricultural Sciences around 14:00.
- 9. Announcement of final examination results

NOTE: Applicants will also be notified by mail. - 10. Enrollment Procedures
- (1) Detailed enrollment procedures will be notified by mail early in March, 2012.
(2) Registration fee: 282,000 yen (expected)
(3) Tuition: 267,900 yen per semester (535,800 yen per year (expected))
NOTE:
In case of any revision in tuition, the new rate will be made effective on and after the date of revision.

(4) Registration date: Tuesday, March 27/Wednesday, March 28, 2012 (scheduled) - 11. Others
- (1) Further notifications for the examination will be given on the notice board on the date of examination. Examinees must be seated in the examination room 20 minutes before the examination starts.
(2) Handicapped students and others who require special arrangements for testing and for taking courses should consult with us until November 25, 2011 (Friday).

The Contents of Subject and Instructions for Subject Choices
Visit the homepage of Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences (http://www.agr.nagoya-u.ac.jp/) to see the contents of the subjects.
Select any two subjects from No. 1 to 24.
Applicants who major in "Biofunctional Chemistry" (Applied Molecular Biosciences) are recommended to select two subjects from Nos. 3, 4, 5, 7 and 18.
Applicants must print subjects chosen on the application form, the ID photo card and the admission ticket for the examination.
Notice for subject choice. You can not change subjects that you have described in the application form.
